The patient who was a 33 year old farm worker with a traumatic brain injury, required an emergency procedure. According to the indictment, the surgeon brought her child into the operating room and permitted her to drill a hole into the patient’s skull so a medical probe could be inserted. The surgeon later bragged about the event to staff, though she now claims these statements were simply “maternal pride” and not factual.
